Eros
Eros est le nom d'un album de deftones qui aurait dû succéder à Saturday Night Wrist. C'est -à l'heure actuelle- le dernier album sur lequel joue Chi. Sa sortie a été annulée et reportée à une date ultérieure suite à l'accident du bassiste...
On ne sait donc que peu de choses sur Eros, sinon que l'album aurait dû être produit par Terry Date.
Eros _ en quelques mots
I want the album to be as weird as we can possibly make it without completely alienating people. If I had to compare it to any of our records, then I think it probably reminds me of White Pony the most. There's a lot of atmosphere and a lot of soundscaping. I couldn't feel better about it at the moment.

So far, it's shaping up to be our most unorthodox piece of work, not only sound-wise but the way a lot of the songs have come about. There is also some of that good old "fuck you, i hope you die!" aggression I know a lot of you love and miss from us.

We've been locked into the studio as you know and are finishing the drum tracks on a song tentatively called "Trempest." Its heavy as fuck with a shitload of groove 'n even though its been driving me crazy as it runs through my insomniatic brain, I am really excited.

The songs recorded for Eros are very special to us as they are the latest with Chi (and we certainly hope not the last); they have history and significant meaning to us. However, as we neared completion on Eros, we realized that this record doesn’t best encompass and represent who we are currently as people and as musicians. And although those songs will see the light of day at some point, we collectively made the decision that we needed to take a new approach, and with Chi’s condition heavy on our minds while doing so. We needed to return to the studio to do what we felt was right artistically. Our inspiration and unity as a band is stronger than it has ever been before and we needed to channel that energy into our music, and deliver to our fans what you rightly deserve: the best Deftones record that we can make.
The decision to hold off on releasing Eros has no connection with Chi’s condition or anything associated. This was, and is, purely a creative decision by the band to write, record, and deliver an amazing product. As a result we feel like this is the best record we’ve ever written. And although Chi is not playing bass with us, his presence is dramatically felt in our hearts and on our minds everyday when we step into that studio, and you will feel it in the music.

Eros _ Histoire
L'histoire d'Eros est assez particulière et est (forcément) liée à la vie de Chi. Elle commence au second semestre de l'année 2007. Après avoir passé près d'un an sur les routes pour promouvoir Saturday Night Wrist, le groupe est plus soudé que jamais et se décide à attaquer la composition d'un nouvel album. Le groupe s'installe à Sacramento, dans leur Spot et commence à écrire.
En avril 2007, le groupe est rejoint par Terry Date, qui est de retour après l'échec d'Ezrin sur Saturday Night Wrist. Il est accompagné par Scott Olson et commence à enregistrer les premières chansons d'Eros. Le groupe fait preuve d'une grande cohésion et le projet avance donc sereinement et efficacement, ce qui est plutôt exceptionnel !
Le 18 septembre 2008, alors que les premières rumeurs annoncent l'album pour la fin de l'année, deftones joue l'une de leur nouvelle chanson, Melanie en live.
Malheureusement, le 4 novembre 2008, un drâme sans précédent dans la vie du groupe survient : Chi est victime d'un très grave accident de voiture à Santa Clara, en Californie. Le bassiste s'en sort, mais il est dans le coma...
Cet accident affecte très sérieusement (et bien évidemment) le reste du groupe, qui reste silencieux pendant une longue période. Pendant ce temps, Chi, toujours dans le coma, doit faire face à différentes complications. Mais le bassiste se bat comme un lion et son état général s'améliore lentement.
Le groupe sort de son mutisme en mars 2009 lorsqu'il annonce sa participation au Bamboozle Left Festival. Sergio Vega remplace Chi à la basse, comme en 1999. Il travaille d'ailleurs sur Eros avec le groupe.
En juin 2009, Chino annonce qu'Eros est finalement mis de côté, et que le groupe se concentre actuellement sur l'écriture d'un nouvel album. Cette décision s'est imposée au groupe comme une évidence : il ne se reconnait plus artistiquement parlant dans Eros. Si l'accident de Chi y est certainement pour beaucoup, le groupe insiste sur le fait qu'il s'agit d'une décision artistique. A l'heure actuelle, aucune date de sortie n'est prévue. On sait simplement qu'Eros ne pourra sortir qu'une fois Chi sur pieds.
